Hoy en d\u00eda, sus restos se encuentran en los suburbios de la ciudad de Solin, a solo 5 km de Split.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La ciudad de Salona fue fundada por los griegos en el siglo III a.C. a orillas del r\u00edo Jadro. Tras la conquista por parte de los romanos, Salona se convirti\u00f3 en la capital de la provincia romana de Dalmacia debido a su apoyo al futuro dictador romano Cayo Julio C\u00e9sar en la guerra civil contra Pompeyo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Este importante sitio arqueol\u00f3gico es un recordatorio de una de las ciudades romanas m\u00e1s importantes de la \u00e9poca, con m\u00e1s de 60.000 habitantes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Se pueden observar muchas caracter\u00edsticas romanas, como murallas, un foro, un teatro, un anfiteatro, ba\u00f1os p\u00fablicos y un acueducto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Uno de los monumentos m\u00e1s interesantes a\u00fan visibles es la base del antiguo anfiteatro. El famoso arquitecto y arque\u00f3logo dan\u00e9s Ejnar Dyggve cree que fue construido en el siglo II d.C., durante el fuerte crecimiento de Salona. Se supone que podr\u00eda albergar entre 18.000 y 20.000 espectadores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Salona fue destruida y abandonada durante las invasiones de los \u00e1varos y croatas en los siglos VI y VII d.C.
